Date started: Tue 10th October 1978

I was born in Essex and still support their cricket team. I trained at Bristol University and spent the next few years in various hospital posts in Bristol, Plymouth and Exeter. In Exeter, I was one of the first General Practice trainees on the (then) new vocational training course for GPs.

I joined Pembroke House in 1978, and was the Trainer for new GPs in the practice from 1981.

I became a member of the Local Medical Committee, the committee which looks after and represents GP colleagues, whilst still a trainee in Exeter, and then elected in my own right from Paignton. I became Chairman of the Torbay branch and later the Devon Committee, a post I held for 8 years. After the disbanding of the Devon LMC, I was responsible for setting up the new Devon office of both North and South LMCs, and now chair the management board.

I enjoy the organisational side of the practice, helping to make the structure of the NHS work locally. I have also been an assistant in Rheumatology at the local hospital for 20+ years, (perhaps a few years too long!!!)

The reorganisation of the Health Service in 1997 introduced management at a local level (Torbay). I was Chairman of the Primary Care Group, and of its successor the Executive of the Primary Care Trust.

In my spare time, I follow, watch and now occasionally play cricket. I enjoy walking, and the moors give the ideal opportunity to do this, and I have great fun with DIY, especially building brick walls!!

All partners provide contraception, maternity care and domicillary visiting.
